Zelenskiy believes that peace in the Middle East can lead to peace in Russia

October 16, 2025

On Thursday, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the Ukrainian president, said that the momentum of the Middle East Peace Process would help to end the more than three-and-a-half-year-old conflict between his country and Russia.

Zelenskiy posted on Telegram that "we have a meeting with President Trump planned tomorrow. We are counting on this impulse to end terror and war, which has worked in the Middle East, to help stop Russia's conflict against Ukraine."

"The language and justice of strength will work in Russia too."

Zelenskiy didn't refer to Trump's promise, during a phone conversation with Vladimir Putin on Thursday, that he would hold new discussions.

He said that it was obvious that "after hearing about Tomahawks", Moscow is eager to resume dialogue, a reference Trump's suggestion to Kyiv that he could provide those missiles.

Zelenskiy stated that he met with representatives of defense companies. "Manufacturers can strengthen our defences", he said, including air defence systems for guarding against attacks on energy infrastructure. (Reporting and editing by Diane Craft, Deepa Babington and Bogdan Kochubey)
