Source: India's power giant NTPC is planning to enter the coal gasification business.
Sources familiar with the plan said that NTPC, the Indian coal power company, is planning to enter the coal gasification market. The company plans to produce 5-10 million tonnes of synthetic gas per year over the next 3-4 years.

In 2024, India approved plans for incentives of 85 billion rupees (967.06 millions dollars) to be provided for projects that convert coal into gas. This gas could then be used to produce fertilisers or petrochemicals.
India plans to gasify 100 millions tonnes of coal before 2030.
As part of their efforts to reduce emissions, many countries, including the United States are exploring coal gasification technologies.
Sources said that NTPC had also begun scouting for land in 16 Indian states to build nuclear portfolios totaling 30 gigawatts as part of the company's plan.
India wants to increase its nuclear power production capacity from 8 gigawatts to 100 gigawatts in 2047.
The source stated that NTPC would be implementing projects ranging from 700 megawatts to 1600 MW, and using a variety of technologies in the process.
NTPC has not responded to a request for comment immediately.
Cost of 1 gw nuclear project estimated between 150 and 200 billion rupees.
