What is the new Ukrainian Prime Minister, Sergii Koretskyi?
The Ukrainian parliament has approved the appointment of Sergii Koretskyi, a top energy executive as the country's new premier. This is the third head of government to be appointed during wartime in a broader reshuffle announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
Here are some facts about the new Prime Minister:
KORETSKYI - FIRST GOVERNMENT POSITION
Koretskyi is an engineer and economist who has been trained in both fields. He has never held a position of government before, and has no political affiliations, which, according to analysts, could be to his benefit.
Volodymyr Fesenko, the director of Penta, said that he has an edge because he is both a good manager and a political neutral.
EXPERIENCE OF TWO DECADES IN THE ENERGY INDUSTRY
Koretskyi, a respected energy executive, has more than 20 years' experience in oil refining and production, energy retail, wholesale management and international financing.
Since May 2025 he is the CEO of Naftogaz - one of Ukraine’s largest state companies. Naftogaz is the oil and natural gas giant that controls a large part of Ukraine’s gas production, supply and imports.
He was previously the head of Ukrnafta - Ukraine's biggest oil company, which is a part of Naftogaz.
He was the CEO of WOG, the Continuum Group, as well as one of Ukraine's largest?filling stations chains?.
Koretskyi, born in the western Ukrainian city of Lutsk had founded a coffee-chain?business.
