Trump tells UN climate change is a "con job"
President Donald Trump referred to climate change during his Tuesday address to the United Nations General Assembly as "the biggest con job in the world". He also reiterated his skepticism towards global environmental initiatives and multinational institutions.
Scientists claim climate change is real and largely caused by humans. It's also getting worse. As clear indicators, they point to increasing temperatures, stronger storms and melting ice. UN groups have warned against waiting too long before taking action. This could lead to serious harm to both the planet and the people. Trump spent several minutes discussing climate change in his speech to the United Nations General Assembly. He criticized the European Union for its reduced carbon footprint and warned countries who have heavily invested in renewable energy of the consequences.
He also emphasized the strong focus of his administration on increasing fossil fuel production.
He said, "We don't need to go hunting because we have more oil than any other nation, plus we have oil, gas, and coal.
His remarks come just a day after UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres hosts at the UN a climate summit that will be focusing on new countries' climate action plans. (Reporting and editing by Deepa Babyington, Valerie Volcovici, Gram Slattery, and Jarrett Renshaw)
