Two industry sources have confirmed that Gazprom’s gas processing facility in Russia’s'southern Astrakhan' region has halted motor fuel manufacturing after a fire broke out on May 13 following a drone attack.

The plant has suspended its operations. This includes a combined unit that processes stable condensate at the facility, with a capacity of 3,000,000 metric tons per year.

Igor Babushkin, the local governor of Astrakhan, reported on his Telegram channel that debris from an Ukrainian drone attack had caused a fire at a gas?processing?plant.

According to sources, it could take several weeks or even several months to restore motor fuel production.

Gazprom didn't immediately respond to our request for a comment.

According to one source, the Astrakhan plant had been off-line since September of last year. It resumed motor fuel production and condensate?processing only a few weeks before the latest attack in April.

According to a second source, equipment for the hydrogen sulphide process and sulphur extraction?was also damaged by the drone attack.

According to industry sources, Astrakhan's plant will process 1.8 million tons in 2024. It will also produce 800,000 tonne of gasoline, 600,000 tonne of diesel, and 300,000 tonnes of fuel oil. Barbara Lewis (Reporting)
