QatarEnergy to restart LNG production and reach current capacity within one month.
QatarEnergy will'resume liquefied gas production very quickly at its Ras Laffan LNG plant.' It could reach full output.within.a month of facilities that were not affected by Iranian strikes. In March, the CEO of QatarEnergy said that two of Qatar's LNG trains, as well as one of its gas-to-liquids facilities, were damaged by the Iranian strikes. This knocked down 17% of Qatar's LNG export capability. Repairs will take many years. The source stated that production at other facilities could be quickly resumed due to the de facto closing of the Strait of Hormuz, which was the main oil and LNG export gateway for the Middle East during the Iran War. The person who refused to be identified said that the problem would be how quickly we could bring in ships and load them once the strait opens. It's a logistics and shipping problem, not a production issue. The U.S. and Iran have reached a framework agreement on terms for ending their war, which would reopen Hormuz. However, only a few LNG tankers managed to leave the strait after the war started in late February.
Shippers await reassurances on the safety of crossing the strait. This includes a 'clearing of mines', which could delay the return to normal traffic by several weeks.
