OMV names Emma Delaney, a BP executive, as its first female CEO

April 10, 2026

The Austrian oil-and-gas group OMV will appoint Emma Delaney to the position of CEO and Chairperson of the Executive Board from September. This was announced in a Friday statement.

Delaney, who has worked for BP since 1995, will replace Alfred Stern as chief executive. Stern has held this position since September 2021. He announced in May he wouldn't run for reelection at the end of his contract.

Edith Hlawati said that the Executive Board's nomination of 'Emma Delaney' will give OMV an even stronger international presence. Delaney, who would be OMV's first female CEO, was also described as a "stronger" woman.

The supervisory board of the Vienna-based company has recommended Delaney's appointment for an initial period of three years. There is the option to extend the term by two more years, if the supervisory council decides so at their next meeting.

Delaney, an Irishwoman, will take over the Customers and Products business of BP in 2020. This includes BP’s petrol stations network, lubricants and EV charging.

Meg O'Neill, the CEO of BP, was informed by Delaney that she wanted to pursue another job. BP wished her success for the next chapter of her career in an email statement.

BP announced that Richard Harding would be the acting EVP Customers & Products, starting April 13. Danny Callaghan reported from Gdansk, Shadia Nasralla from London and Miranda Murray edited the story.
