NOC: Libya's Bouri Gas Project to begin production in September for local gas supply
The National Oil Company of Libya announced on Tuesday that Mellitah Oil and Gas Company had completed the'manufacturing and assembly' of units of the Bouri Gas Utilization Project. This project aims to 'utilise' more than 120 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.
Mellitah, a joint venture of NOC and Italy’s Eni, has a daily production equivalent to 440,000 barrels.
Gas production in the North African country has reached about 2.5 billion cubic foot per day.
The project will begin actual production in 2026. This will help to boost gas supplies for the local market and export the surplus, according to NOC in a statement.
Gas utilisation is also intended to achieve a "zero-level" of combustion at the Bouri Field.
About 130 km north of Tripoli, the capital city, is the Bouri offshore field.
Mellitah stated in a separate press release that this "step" comes after preparation works which included comprehensive rehabilitation of platform to convert it to a "gas platform".
NOC stated that the units are expected to arrive in 10 days via sea from Italy's Ravenna. "Then the heavy lifting?and complicated technical connection to platform 3?and 4" would begin."
Saipem, an Italian energy services company, announced that it had won a contract worth around $1 billion in Libya for the development of the Bouri oil field.
