Hang Tung: Brazil sorghum to exports will gain momentum in H2

March 2, 2026

Brazilian sorghum will be limited by a restricted supply in the first half of 2026, but the director-general for Brazil, 'Hang Tung,' expects a more active second half, as harvest time arrives.

Key Context

Gabriel Cordeiro is the director-general of Hang Tung in Brazil. He said that exporters are competing with producers of animal feed and ethanol for sorghum. This has limited current supplies.

Cordeiro stated that sorghum exports will increase as the second crop harvest in Brazil begins.

In November, China, which is the world's largest importer of sorghum, allowed 10 Brazilian companies export the grain amid trade disputes between the United States and China.

By the Numbers

According to data from the government, Brazil will harvest 6.7 million metric tonnes of sorghum by 2025/26. This is an increase of nearly 10% over the?last season. Brazil exported sorghum worth 25 tons to China in January. This was the first time since 2014 that Brazil had shipped a similar amount.

Cargonave, the maritime agency, said that a larger cargo of 32,000 metric tons is set to be shipped to Morocco at the beginning of March.
