Nordex CEO: Europe must accelerate renewable energy permits

February 25, 2026

Nordex's chief executive Jose?Luis Blanco said that many European countries should follow Germany's lead in approving wind projects quickly. In an interview with?

Blanco stated that obtaining a permit in Germany was difficult a few short years ago. However, it is now easy and fast.

Berlin wants to get 80% of Germany’s electricity from renewable sources by 2030. This goal has been accelerated due to recent reforms, and the decline in Russian fossil fuels imports after the invasion of Ukraine.

"Electrification is impossible if?grid investments?and execution of these grid investments are not made in a timely fashion. Blanco stated that the grid was the bottleneck, and there would be no capacity increase.

He proposed an emergency permitting system?for the deployment of grids which would enable the installation of more renewables. This, he said, would help lower costs for customers?and allow European competitiveness.

Blanco stated that it would also 'put Europe's destiny in its own hand, without relying on imports, in a world of geopolitical tensions, and trade wars. (Reporting and Writing by Danny Callaghan; Editing and Revision by Matt Scuffham).
