Engie's LNG boss says Europe will have enough gas for the winter
Engie's global head of?LNG? and biomass, Ralph Dickgreber, said on Thursday that there is enough gas from other regions to Europe to make up for the Middle East supplying Europe this winter.
He said this on the sidelines of the Budapest LNG Summit. "I am not concerned about 2026 if the crisis ends in the next two weeks."
The European gas price fell Thursday morning, as the market evaluated 'prospects of a peace agreement between the United States of America and Iran which could lead to a gradual resumption of natural gas liquefied flows through the Strait of Hormuz.
Dickgreber stated that "even if we now get a peace agreement, I believe there has already been a lot damage done and it will take some time to get back to normality."
Engie has been approached by more Eastern European countries asking for similar deals to those that the company reached with Hungary.
Engie signed a 'largest ever' liquefied gas contract with Hungary in 2025, to diversify the country's supply and move away from Russia. The majority of the fuel demand in Hungary and Slovakia is met by Russian gas.
He declined to provide any details. "I believe there will be many more deals," he said.
