EIA: US power consumption will reach new highs by 2025 and 26.

Energy Information Administration's short-term energy forecast on Tuesday said that U.S. electricity consumption would reach record levels in 2025 and in 2026.

EIA predicted that power demand would rise from 4,110 billion kWh to 4,199 billion in 2025 and 4,267 billion in 2026.

Demand is increasing due to the use of electricity by homes and businesses and data centers dedicated for artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency.

According to the EIA, power sales for residential customers will reach?1,516?kWh in 2025, followed by 1,486?kWh commercial customers and 1,055?kWh industrial customers.

Forecasts are compared to all-time records of 1,509 billions kWh for residential customers in 2022, 1,451 billions?billions kWh in 2020 for commercial customers and 1,064 trillions?kWh in 2000 for industrial consumers.

The?EIA stated that the share of electricity generated from natural gas will drop from 42% to 40% by 2025 and 2026. Coal will increase from 16% to 17% by 2025, before slipping back to 16% by 2026 due to the rise in renewable energy output.

According to the outlook, renewable energy will increase from 22% to 24% by 2025, and to 25% by 2026. Nuclear power will decline from 19% to 18% between 2024 and 2025.

Gas sales for power generation would fall to 35.9 billion cubic feet per day, according to the EIA.

This compares to all-time records of 14.3 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) in 1996 for residential customers, 9.6 billion cubic feet per day in 2019 for commercial clients, 23.8 Bcfd for industrial customers in 1973, and 36.8 Bcfd for power generation in 2024.
