During Erdogan's visit, Turkey and Ethiopia signed an energy cooperation agreement

The Turkish Energy Ministry announced that Turkey and Ethiopia signed an agreement on 'energy cooperation' during the visit of President Tayyip Erdogan to Addis Ababa on Tuesday.

Erdogan visited Addis Ababa for a day on Tuesday, at the invitation of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. It was his first visit to Ethiopia in eleven years.

After talks between the two leaders, an agreement was signed in a ceremony. Alparslan Bayraktar, the Turkish Energy Minister, said that it would be used as a 'roadmap to enhance?cooperation.

In a?note, the ministry stated that the agreement would allow the two countries to develop projects relating to renewable energy, energy efficiency and the production of equipment for hydroelectric power plants and electric turbines.

Turkey and Ethiopia have close relations. Ankara helped resolve a dispute in 2024 between Ethiopia and 'Somalia over 'Addis Ababa’s plan to build port in the breakaway region 'Somaliland.

Ankara, as it seeks to increase its presence in the region has sent its deep sea drilling vessel Cagri bey to Somalia for what Bayraktar?said would be Ankara’s first offshore exploration outside its maritime zones. Tuvan Gumrukcu, Jan Harvey and Jan Harvey edited the report.
