Castleton Oil Traders Geneva team to focus on oil, according to sources

September 3, 2025

Castleton Commodities International, a trader specializing in energy commodities, has established a team based in Geneva, Switzerland, in the last few weeks, as part of its efforts to expand in oil trading. Two sources familiar with this matter confirmed it on Wednesday. Sources said that the Stamford-based company hired Roberto Rosales as the leader of the Geneva-based team. Rosales previously worked as a senior oil trading at Izzy Eglander’s hedge fund Millennium Management.

Sources said that Boyan Shmorhun will join Castleton’s Geneva team. He is a North Sea trader with Gunvor.

Sources requested anonymity in order to discuss confidential information.

Castleton declined comment. Rosales was not available for comment. Shmorhun didn't respond to our request for a comment. Castleton and other commodities dealers have been strengthening their energy-focused team in recent years. They are using the record profits they made by trading oil and gas during a period of extreme market volatility.

His LinkedIn profile indicated that the company had hired Patrick Guillot earlier this year as a crude oil trader in Houston. Guillot had previously worked as a managing director for Freepoint Commodities and a crude oil trader, according to his LinkedIn profile.

LinkedIn shows that Castleton hired Jason Kalish in May as executive director. Kalish traded oil and biofuels at Freepoint previously, his LinkedIn profile showed.

LinkedIn data shows that Castleton has seen a 7% increase in its headcount over the last year. Shariq Khan reported from New York, and Georgia McCartney from Houston.
