Azerbaijan summons Russian ambassador over attack on SOCAR Fuel Station in Ukraine
The 'Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry' said Monday that it had summoned the 'Russian' ambassador to protest against what they said was an attack by a Russian drone on a fueling station owned by state oil and gas firm SOCAR on Sunday in Ukraine's Mykolaiv Region.
In retaliation to Kyiv's increasing?campaigns against Russia's energy infrastructure which have caused fuel shortages in many Russian regions, Russia has targeted?filling station in Ukraine.
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry said that other?SOCAR owned facilities in Ukraine had been damaged by military strikes in the past, including an Odesa oil depot.
In a press release, it stated that "the continuation of such incidents despite repeated warnings indicates the deliberate nature of these attacks."
The Russian government did not immediately react to Azerbaijan’s diplomatic protest and allegations.
Azerbaijan is trying to maintain relations with both Moscow, and Kyiv. Since Russia sent thousands of troops to Ukraine in February 20, 2022 Azerbaijan provides humanitarian aid to Ukraine while refusing to join the Western sanctions against Russia.
