Zeo Energy signs agreement to develop 280MW of power for Creekstone Data Center in Utah
Zeo Energy announced on Wednesday that it had'signed a Memorandum of Understanding' with privately-held Creekstone Energy for the development of 280 megawatts worth of power generation to be used in a data center currently under construction in Millard County.
U.S. utilities, as well as independent power developers, are racing to meet the surging demand for electricity from data centres. These centers are growing rapidly to support workloads related artificial intelligence.
The increasing data-center load has also pushed utilities to speed up grid upgrades. Tighter regional supply has increased wholesale power prices, and intensified the competition for generation projects.
Tim Bridgewater, CEO of Zeo Energy, told the company that the company planned to supply Creekstone's data center with a combination of solar power and batteries. This could meet 60% to 80% the electricity requirements.
He added that developers are interested in?Zeo's long-term storage technologies because on-site generation is becoming more important for data centers located at remote locations.
He said that the firm offers a molten salt system as well as a CO2 storage solution.
He said that although federal incentives make projects cost effective, they are likely to increase once the subsidies expire. The increases will be passed onto end users.
Creekstone intends to supply its clients with more than '300 MW gas-fired energy? at the Gigasite project in the first half 2027. (Reporting and editing by Vijay Kishore in Bengaluru, Katha Kalia is based in Bengaluru)
