Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that the South Korean government was preparing to announce an 'energy investment project worth more than $100 billion in the United States,' aimed at boosting the artificial intelligence?buildout.

According to the report, which cited people "familiar" with the issue, the deal would see South Korea finance the construction of eight nuclear power stations and a project involving natural gas.

The South Korean trade ministry stated that details about investment in the United States have not yet been finalized. Requests for comment outside of regular business hours were not responded to immediately by the U.S. Commerce Department or the White House.

U.S. President Donald Trump and South Korea’s President Lee Jae Myung struck a deal last October in which South Korea committed $350 billion to U.S. manufacturing, while Washington agreed to cap tariffs on Korean imports.

Seoul has faced delays since the implementation of the trade agreement, but Trump threatened the country earlier this year with a tariff increase.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the South Korean investments are expected to be realized?over the next few years.

Reports said that the deal includes the construction of eight nuclear reactors, of which the first would use the design of American company Westinghouse Electric. Some of the subsequent reactors may use designs from South Korea's KEPCO.

WSJ reported that another?potential?investment, worth approximately $20?billion dollars, would be tied to a Texas natural-gas power station, which would run AI data centers.
