Turkmenistan will maintain its gas production next year
Turkmengaz, the state-owned energy company, said that Turkmenistan's natural gas production will remain at 80 billion cubic meters in 2025-2026.
Maksat Babaev, speaking at the Turkmenistan annual oil and gas convention's press conference, said that this year's production of gas was 80 billion cubic meters. We plan to continue in this area next year.
Separately Guvanch AGAJANOV, the head of the state oil company Turkmenneft told reporters the country will produce over 8 million tons in 2025. This is similar to what was produced the previous year.
Turkmengaz's Babayev said that Turkmenistan plans to increase its gas production over the next few years. In 2026, the fourth stage of development for its largest gasfield, Galkynysh will start, adding 10 billion cubic meters of production per year.
Turkmenistan’s gas production in 2025 will drop by 3.2%, to 38.9 bcm from the previous period of 40.2 bcm.
Turkmenistan is the country with the 5th largest reserves of natural gas in the world. Turkmenistan exports most of its natural gas to China. Other buyers include Azerbaijan and Turkey.
Babayev stated that Turkmenistan had suspended gas exports to Turkey. The Turkish government had signed a short-term agreement with Turkmenistan regarding gas imports through Iran.
He said that the exports of 500 mcm per year to Afghanistan could be achieved by a pipeline segment currently being constructed. This will begin in 2027.
