Want to be inspired? Every Friday, Weekend Reads highlights what the Open Interest team has been watching, listening to, and reading.

This week, we've selected articles on the Federal Reserve's monetary policy, electric cars, industrial policing, forex interventions, energy security, and investing.

This weekend, we read... MIKE DOLAN. ROI Finance & Markets columnist. This short piece by James Galbraith, on Project Syndicate, critiques Fed chair Kevin Warsh’s suggestion that the central bank should bring back money supply targeting. The article ends with an anecdote that describes the uproar when this idea was last popular in the 1970s when Galbraith served on the House Banking Committee. GAVIN MAGUIRE is the 'ROI Global Energy Transition columnist. This article by environmental journalist Andy Revkin explores the way the war in Iran has accelerated the adoption of electric cars around the globe. ANDY HOME ROI Metals columnist: Ernie Scheyder looks at a new primary aluminum smelter proposed in Oklahoma. The U.S. desperately requires one but the massive project is attracting opposition and has become a key issue in the contentious Governor's Race: "Build it at Mar-a-Lago!" JAMIE McGEEVER, ROI Markets columnist: The U.S. Treasury’s rare intervention on currency markets along with Japan’s Ministry of Finance in order to support the Japanese yen raises many more questions than it answers. Tokyo and Washington have the same goals, but they are motivated by different factors. Mark Sobel, former U.S. Treasury Official and vice chair of Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum argues that FX interventions alone will not suffice. Fundamental changes to their respective domestic policies are required.

We're listening to... JAMIE McGEEVER, ROI Markets columnist: Barry Ritholtz is always worth a listen. He is the co-founder and CIO at Ritholtz Wealth Management. In this broad-ranging Rational Reminder Podcast, he shares some home truths on investing, economic and market models, and yes, financial media: "90% all financial products... are crap."

We're watching... ANNA SZYMANSKI (?ROI Editor in Charge): Ron Bousso, ROI Energy columnist, joins Carmel Crimmins on the latest episode to discuss if renewables, nuclear energy and a massive 'grid overhaul' can bolster Europe’s energy'security' before its competitors gain further advantage.
