Starmer: UK and US should collaborate on small modular reactors
Keir starmer, British Prime Minister, said that the United States would benefit by working closer together on small modular reactors. He made this statement as he met Donald Trump in his golf resort on Monday.
Starmer stated that the more we work together, the better.
Rolls-Royce was selected by Britain last month to build its first SMRs. The company pledged to invest $3.35 billion to help kickstart the SMR industry.
Trump stated that the United States will look at the possibility of smaller nuclear plants.
He told Turnberry reporters, "We are doing smaller and larger but the small is fascinating."
"They (Rolls-Royce), do a very small plant. It is very safe and easy to operate. As they need more, they connect another plant and have a number of plants, instead of the $20 billion facility."
Trump stated that SMRs would require a much lower investment and added that they will study the option. $1 = 0.7462 pound (Reporting and writing by Sam Tabahriti and William James; editing by Alistair Smout, Catarina demony, and Paul Sandle)
