Source: US talks with Europe on co-production of missiles

July 7, 2026

Source: The U.S. and Germany are in discussions about establishing a co-production facility for Lockheed’s PAC-3 Patriot missiles as well as a maintenance facility to produce Raytheon’s AIM120 AMRAAM.

Both projects, if implemented, could allow Raytheon and Lockheed Martin to increase production in their U.S. factories.

Source, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that the?countries would sign a declaration of intent during a NATO Industry Forum on the sidelines the military alliance’s Ankara Summit later on Tuesday.

Both PAC-3 missiles and AIM-120C-8 rockets launched by NASAMS 'air defence systems 'as well as F-16 fighter jets are highly demanded in Ukraine, where Kyiv is fighting off Russian attacks ever since Moscow invaded the country in 2022.

Donald Trump, the U.S. president, has repeatedly criticized European allies who rely on?the U.S. to provide their security. He also urged them to increase defence spending and purchase more U.S. equipment. He has also threatened to "pull Washington out" of NATO.

Trump invoked the Defense Production Act in mid-June to address limitations in weapons supply and development for munitions supply and supply chains.

Washington was growing concerned about the ability of U.S. manufacturers to meet the demand for their weapons, after the wars in Ukraine and Iran had depleted U.S. stocks.

Trump has also encouraged the co-production of U.S. arms with Europe. (Reporting and editing by Linda Pasquini.)
