Sinopec signss engineering contract for Central Asia's largest integrated biojet-fuel complex
Sinopec's subsidiary in Central Asia has signed a contract to design the region's first fully integrated, large-scale sustainable aviation fuel complex. This is a significant step for the group as it pushes low-carbon energy overseas.
Sinopec Engineering announced in a'statement' on Wednesday that it had signed a contract for front-end engineering & design (FEED) with Uzbekistan’s Allied Biofuels FE LLC.
The complex will have a production capacity of?approximately?160,000 metric tons per year of biomass-based SAF.
Solar power will be the main source of electricity for this plant, which will use straw, rice husks, and sorghum as its primary feedstock.
The products will?serve the aviation industry in Central Asia and also export markets in Europe and the Middle East.
Sinopec said that the deal represents a "significant breakthrough" for its overseas low-carbon and new energy businesses.
The company also stated that the project will help to strengthen Uzbekistan as an 'aviation hub' in Central Asia while 'accelerating the transition of the region towards clean energy'. Reporting by Sam Li & Lewis Jackson. Mark Potter edited the article.
