Petronas continues talks with Petros following the adjournment of a court case
Petronas announced on Monday that a Malaysian court had granted an adjournment request from the national energy company Petronas, and the Sarawak State-run Company Petros in a case concerning a dispute regarding gas rights in the province. Petronas announced that the case at the High Court of Kuching in Sarawak has been adjourned by one month in order to allow the ongoing negotiations to continue.
Petronas stated that "the parties are still engaged in discussions to resolve the matter."
Petronas didn't give any details about the court case and didn't immediately respond to requests for more information.
Local media reported that Petros was suing Petronas for allegedly providing natural gas in Sarawak without a valid license. It is also seeking a declaration from the court that Petronas’ 7.95 million Ringgit ($1.9million) payment demand made under a bank guaranteed was illegal.
Since last year, talks between Petronas & Petros about gas distribution rights in Sarawak are deadlocked.
