Orsted's Revolution Wind files suit against the Trump administration for project cancellation
A court filing on Thursday showed that the Revolution Wind joint-venture of Orsted, the Danish wind farm developer, has sued the Trump administration over its decision to stop construction of the project near Rhode Island.
Last month, the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management gave Revolution Wind an order to stop work. The project was already 80% completed with 45 of 65 turbines and all offshore foundations installed.
The court filed stated that "the stop work order is illegal because it was issued without any statutory authority and there are no evidences to support its validity."
Revolution Wind, which is a joint venture of Orsted and Skyborn Renewables that has a 50/50 split, reported spending $5 billion so far on the project. It said it would incur another $1 billion in costs if the work stop order was not lifted.
The Revolution Wind project is expected to be completed in the next year, and will produce enough electricity for 350,000 homes to Rhode Island and Connecticut.
Orsted is suffering a great deal from the cancellation of Revolution Wind in Rhode Island.
Last month, a plan was announced to raise 60 billion Danish crowns (9.41 billion dollars) via a rights issue.
