MES Wins Order for 18 Reciprocating Compressors
Eighteen units of reciprocating compressors to be supplied to Aegean Refinery Project in Turkey for STAR Aegen Refinery
Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES) has received orders for a total of 18 reciprocating compressors for Aegean Refinery in Izmir which will be one of the largest refineries in Turkey. STAR Aegean Refinery is performed by STAR Rafineri A.Ş., a joint venture between the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic and the Ministry of Economy and Industry of Azerbaijan.
The orders were placed by UTE TSGI, a company formed by Tecnicas Reunidas, Saipem, GS E&C and Itochu. The compressors, one of the core equipment of the refinery, are to be manufactured at MES Tamano Works in Japan and are scheduled to be delivered from September 2015 onward. The refinery is scheduled to start production in 2018.
The refining capacity of 10 million tons per year of the Aegean Refinery will increase the total refining capacity in Turkey by some 30% and strong contribution to the Turkish economy is anticipated.
MES informs it has delivered over 1,000 units of reciprocating compressors since 1961 to the customers in the world.
The quantity of the reciprocating compressors supplied by MES to the Turkish industries will exceed 50 units by these new orders, and MES said it expects to contribute further to the customers in Turkey as well as those in the rest of the world.
