Jordan LNG terminal awarded to AG&P consortium

August 22, 2024

A company statement said that the Singapore-based Atlantic, Gulf and Pacific, as part of a group, was awarded a contract for building an LNG terminal onshore in Jordan.

The onshore Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah terminal will be constructed at the Port of Aqaba and will have a capacity of 720 millions standard cubic feet per daily (mmscfd).

AG&P sent a statement on Wednesday evening stating that the terminal would be finished, delivered, and commissioned within 22 months. The commissioning will take place in Q2 of 2026.

Jordan relies heavily upon natural gas to meet its industrial and power needs, but the reliability of supply is a problem. The new LNG terminal allows Jordan to have access to LNG from a variety of global suppliers. This will ensure a reliable and stable energy source.

The consortium consists of AG&P and its subsidiary GAS Entec as well as the Jordanian construction company Issa Haddadin. The state-owned Aqaba Development Corporation awarded the contract to the consortium.

AG&P owns an LNG import terminal in the Philippines and bought a 49 percent stake in Vietnam’s Cai Mep terminal earlier this year. It also won in March a contract for a 20-year period to develop, operate and own LNG import terminals, as well as other gas infrastructure, in east Indonesia.
