Halliburton makes a move towards possible Venezuelan return by posting vacancies on its job board
Halliburton, an oilfield services company, is looking for resumes to fill a variety of positions in Venezuela, including technicians and engineers, according to an advertisement on a job board dated 16 January. This could indicate a return to the South American nation.
The posting comes just weeks after U.S. President Donald Trump urged oil companies to invest $100 billion in Venezuela, to dramatically boost production.
Halliburton is collecting information from engineers, technicians, other skilled oil workers, and recent graduates who are interested in joining its "talent network" within Venezuela.
The job platform stated that recruiters would be able to view the profiles of candidates for?potential job opportunities in the future, but this would not constitute an official application.
Halliburton didn't immediately respond to a comment request seeking more details.
The CEO of the company, Jeff 'Miller,' attended a meeting with Trump at the White House on January 9,?where he stated that the company began?operations? in Venezuela as early as 1938.
Miller said that he lived in Venezuela for a period of four years and raised his family there. He added that the company was "very interested" to return. Reporting by Arathy S. Somasekhar, Houston; Editing and rewriting by Nathan Crooks & Jacqueline Wong
