Golden Pass Texas LNG facility receives its first LNG tanker
The company confirmed that an LNG tanker had 'arrived' at the Golden Pass facility, Texas, to 'collect the plant’s first export of supercooled?gas. After long delays in construction, the company finally began production earlier this year. According to LSEG, the Al Qaiyyah tanker arrived in Golden Pass on January 8. The ship belongs to?QatarEnergy which owns a 70% stake of the Texas LNG plant. Exxon, a major oil company, holds the remaining 30% equity in the project.
Golden Pass?has experienced delays and cost increases since construction began in 2019. This includes the bankruptcy of its original lead contractor. On March 30, it announced that it had produced its first LNG.
The company stated that it was looking forward to shipping its first cargo and bringing Texas power to the world.
As previously reported, the first shipment will be sent to Italy.
According to LSEG, Golden Pass is expected to process a total of?400 millions cubic feet of natural gas on Monday, which is well below its 800 mcf/d capacity from its first 'train export facility'. The two other 'trains', or processing plants, are under construction.
Train 1 is capable of producing 6 million metric tonnes per year. Exxon said that based on equity ownership, QatarEnergy would receive a little over 4 mtpa while Exxon will get a little under 2 mtpa.
Exxon's LNG?carrier HL Sea Eagle, chartered by Exxon, was?in Gulf of Mexico on Monday. LSEG ship tracking data showed it heading to Golden Pass. This could be a sign that it can load the second shipment.
