Golden Pass is moving closer to producing its first LNG by increasing natural gas flow into the facility

February 19, 2026

LSEG data show that Golden Pass, a joint venture between Exxon Mobil, QatarEnergy and Exxon Mobil, has pulled in more than 300 million cubic feet on Wednesday, bringing it closer to producing its first LNG.

The '18 million metric tons per year project in Texas will be one of the biggest U.S. export facilities of super-cooled gas and help the United States maintain its position as the top exporter.

Exxon CEO Darren Woods stated on January 30 that he expects the plant to begin producing LNG in March. This marks an important milestone for the project.

A spokesperson for Exxon said on Wednesday that the company continues to support Golden Pass in its efforts to complete this important project.

Golden Pass has not responded to our request for a comment immediately.

The increase in gas consumption at the 'plant' follows the arrival of a cooling-down cargo in December. This was one of the last testing stages before the move to LNG production.

After construction began in 2019, the $10 billion project was plagued by?delays? and?cost-overruns? The project had to be re-contracted after the original contractor?filed bankruptcy, claiming overruns.

Woods stated during Exxon’s fourth-quarter earnings conference call with analysts that the venture had done "a really good recovery from bankruptcy." "I expect that we will see the first LNG produced by?very early march."

The plant's demand for natural gases increased from 200 mcf Tuesday to 300mcf today. Curtis Williams reported from Houston, and Nathan Crooks and Kirsten Donovan edited the story.
