Germany fills up all LNG regasification slots in Wilhelmshaven terminals

July 2, 2025

The state-owned German Energy Terminal GmbH (DET), said that it has successfully allocated all regasification slots available for its Wilhelmshaven LNG terminals 1 and 2. This is a further step in enhancing energy security for Germany, and Europe.

DET is responsible to market and operate floating terminals which turn liquefied gas back into natural gas and feed them into Germany's Gas Network.

Germany is relying on global LNG shipping to replace Russian gas pipelines in response to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia in 2022.

Prisma, the company's digital platform, reported that 23 market participants had booked all 77 slots in short-term capacity for 2025 (Wilhelmshaven 2 and 2026) (Wilhelmshaven 1, 2, and 3). According to the company, both slots with and those without delivery obligations have been fully subscribed.

The average price for slots is 0.22 euros per million British Thermal Units (mmBTU), depending upon the terminal, the year and the delivery obligation.

The company said that there was a high demand for the product, and a record number registered traders participated in the auction.

Peter Roettgen, DET's Managing Director, said that he was "very satisfied" with the results of their latest marketing campaign.

The complete allocation of slots and the high level of interest underscore the importance of our Terminals for a stable and reliable supply of energy in Germany and Europe." (Reporting and editing by Jan Harvey; Kirsti Knolle is the reporter)
