EUROPE GAS-European Gas Prices Little Changed on Higher Wind and Colder Weather

October 22, 2025

The Dutch and British gas price ranges were mostly unchanged on Wednesday morning. Strong winds will offset the colder weather that is expected in the next few days, but early November should be milder, limiting demand for heating.

LSEG data shows that the benchmark Dutch front-month contract was 32.10 euros per Megawatt Hour (MWh) or $10.91/mmBtu at 0823 GMT. This is a decrease of 0.13 euros.

The Dutch day-ahead contracts was down 0.25 euro at 32.13 Euro/MWh.

The British gas front-month price fell by 0.38 pence, to 80.97 pence/therm. Meanwhile, the day-ahead contract rose by 1.00 pence, to 78.25 pence/therm.

In a morning report, Karsten Sander-Nielsen, senior analyst at Mind Energy, said that the market is still weighing weather forecasts. Right now, they do not point to an early start of winter.

He added that the wind output will decrease in early November.

Georg Mueller, LSEG's meteorologist, said that the last week of October is likely to be cool, unsettled and accompanied by strong winds. From early November on, conditions will become milder, drier, and less windy.

Low wind speeds increase gas consumption for power generation.

Dzmitry Dzmitry Dauhalevich, LSEG analyst, said that the Norwegian gas flow is expected to decrease on Wednesday due to a major outage at Oseberg.

Gas Infrastructure Europe's data shows that EU gas storage sites are still at levels similar to those seen previously, at under 83%. However, they are behind last year at this time, when levels were just over 95%.

Qatar and the U.S. have both warned that corporate sustainability rules in the EU could threaten the energy supply of the European Union.

The benchmark carbon contract in Europe was down by 0.23 euros at 79.35 euro per metric ton. (Reporting and editing by Rashmi aich in Oslo)
