Siemens Hands Over BorWin3 to TenneT

The BorWin3 offshore wind grid connection project in the German North Sea has been handed over to the German/Dutch transmission grid operator TenneT, by contractors Siemens and Petrofac.The 900 MW project will convert three-phase electric power generated by the Hohe See and Albatros offshore wind farms into direct current and transmit it 160km back to shore to the German national grid.Siemens was responsible for the grid connection system including an onshore converter station.The grid connections HelWin1 and HelWin2…

European transmission system operator TenneT has announced plans to build two 2 GW offshore grid connections in the IJmuiden Ver wind energy area, having entered into a so-called 'innovation partnership' with its suppliers.Given the combination of the large distance to the coast and the size of the IJmuiden Ver wind energy area, a 2 GW direct current (HVDC) solution, based on 525 kilovolts, appears to offer most economical  advantages. Rystad: 2020 Biggest Year for Offshore Wind Jackets

Vineyard Wind to Miss Startup Target Over Permit Delay

While it is generally agreed that the nascent offshore wind energy market in the U.S. will be a newbuild market, there is a repair and conversion possibility for some stacked OSVs.Though estimates on the pace of the offshore wind energy market in the U.S. vary widely, the direction is clear: offshore wind will be a huge marketplace for construction and support vessels to be deployed in U.S. waters over the next decade. The starting point for estimated vessel demand is the raft of projects along the U.S. East Coast, and to a lesser extent, in the Pacific waters, now in the pipeline.

Manor to Power Borssele 1&2 OWF

Belgium Launches Offshore Wind to Hydrogen Project

Belgium's Port of Oostende, the engineering services provider DEME Concessions NV and Belgium-based investment management company PMV have launched a project to establish a plant in the Oostende port that produces green hydrogen from the electricity produced at Belgium’s offshore wind farms.The goal of the project, HYPORT Oostende, is to build the green hydrogen facility in the Plassendale 1 port area and have it up and running in 2025.Their goal is to have a plant operational in the port area of Ostend by 2025 that produces green hydrogen.

Poland Eyes 10GW Offshore Wind Capacity by 2027

Poland's ministry of state assets has published a draft of legislation to promote offshore wind power, aiming to award more than 10GW in the Baltic Sea by 2027.The country will  incentivise the construction of around 10 GW of offshore wind capacity in the Baltic Sea with 25-year contracts for difference to be awarded by 2027, it said in the draft law.It is proposing to award fixed-price contracts for difference (CfDs) to up to 4.6 GW of advanced offshore wind projects before it starts its first tenders for offshore wind.In the first auction – in 2023 – the country would tender for 0.5 GW…

German Offshore Wind Capacity Reaches 7.5GW

A total of 1,469 offshore wind turbines with a capacity of 7,516MW feed electricity into the German offshore wind industry grid as of now. 160 turbines with a capacity of 1,111MW were connected to the grid in 2019.According to a joint press release from country's wind energy associations said: “Offshore wind energy has developed from Germany into an international success story. Electricity from offshore wind energy is cost-effective, reliable and constantly competitive."The industry has long been calling for an expansion to at least 20 GW by 2030 and an expansion path that goes beyond that.

NJ Governor Signs Offshore Wind Bill

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed into legislation Bill, expanding the definition of a 'qualified offshore wind project'. This definition now includes an 'open access offshore wind transmission facility'.With the new legislation in place, developers seeking New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU)  approval as a qualified offshore wind project are required to include within its detailed description for the project any transmission facilities and interconnection facilities to be installed.The definition also includes all related interconnection facilities and equipment in the Atlantic Ocean.
