Tech File: Wärtsilä Delivers Last of 15 LPG Fuel Supply Systems
Wärtsilä said it completed delivery of its liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) fuel supply system (LFSS) to 15 very large gas carrier (VLGC) vessels owned and operated by BW LPG, which has the world’s largest fleet of VLGC vessels.BW LPG ordered the first four of these 15 systems in 2018, immediately following Wärtsilä’s full-scale testing of a full-sized two-stroke marine engine operating with LPG fuel. This was the world’s first such testing protocol, and the performance attained was seen as exceeding expectations.
Waterborne LPG Trade Reaches 28.2MT
Global waterborne LPG trade reached 28.2 million tons, 14.1% growth year over year, said Singapore-headquartered BW LPG.Global LPG trade continues to be driven by the U.S. waterborne LPG exports which grew to 10.5 million tons, up 21.8% year over year, said the owner and operator of LPG vessels.Middle Eastern exports were down marginally by 0.6% year over year to 10.2 million tons. Exports from both Saudi Arabia and Iran fell; the decreased volumes were offset by increased exports from U.A.E and Qatar.In Q3, the increasing LPG export volumes were absorbed by Southeast Asia, Japan and Europe.
BW LPG Exercises Purchase Option on Vermilion First
BW LPG Limited exercises purchase option over Very Large Gas Carrier Vermilion First. The VLGC Vermilion First has been on a time charter with BW LPG since the acquisition of the charter from AP Moller-Maersk in 2013. The Vermilion First was built in 2010 at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Nagasaki Shipyard, and has a capacity of approximately 77,324 cubic metres. BW LPG has exercised a purchase option which became available under the charter in Q1 2015. The transaction will be settled from free cash and the revolving credit facility. Aggregate consideration for the transaction is USD 73 million.
Exmar Optimistic About Gas Carrier Market into 2015
Belgian gas shipping group Exmar said on Thursday that the market for its very large and midsize gas carriers was at historically high levels in the third quarter and was expected to remain good in spite of new vessels being delivered in 2015. The group said its LNG business unit generated $8.5 million in operating profit in the third quarter, up from $7.8 million last year, while its LPG fleet saw an earnings spike to $15.6 million from $5.2 million last year mainly due to the sale of a vessel.
G E Shipping Takes Delivery of a VLGC
The Great Eastern Shipping Company Ltd. (G E Shipping) took delivery of a 1994-built Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC) “Jag Vishnu” [49,300 dwt (73,800 cbm)] on 8th July 2014. G E Shipping Contracts to Sell a VLGC
The Great Eastern Shipping Co Ltd. (G E Shipping) has signed a contract to sell “Jag Vidhi”, a Very Large Gas Carrier. The 1990 built vessel of about 49,701 dwt will be delivered to the buyers in the second half of 2014-15. On 21st May this year the company had delivered its 1996 built Medium Range Product Tanker “Jag Padma” (47,172 dwt) to the buyers. Excluding “Jag Vidhi”, the Company’s fleet stands at 28 vessels, comprising 20 tankers (8 crude carriers, 12 product carriers) and 8 dry bulk carriers (1 Capesize, 3 Kamsarmax and 4 Supramax) with an average age of 9.5 years aggregating 2.32 mn dwt.
EXMAR Sell Two Gas Carriers In Fleet Renewal Program
EXMAR LPG (the Joint Venture between EXMAR and Teekay LNG PARTNERS) announce sale of the Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC) FLANDERS HARMONY (85,826 m3 - 1993 built) and the Midsize Gas Carrier TEMSE (35,754 m3 - 1994 built). TEMSE is expected to be delivered to its new owners by the end of the first quarter 2014 and FLANDERS HARMONY in the course of the second quarter 2014. The capital gain realized by EXMAR for its 50% share in EXMAR LPG will be approximately USD 10.4 million. This transaction will generate for EXMAR LPG net cash proceeds of around USD 30.0-million.
