Enel, Italy's energy company, reports core profit for 2025 in line with guidance

February 6, 2026

Enel, the Italian utility company, reported a core profit of 22.9 billion euro ($27 billion) on Thursday. This is in line with?the?group's guidance for 2020. They also said that their net income will be slightly higher than 6.9 billion euro.

The analyst consensus, calculated by LSEG, was 23 billion euros. However, the growth in international business was offset by a lower performance in Italy.

The EBITDA for '2024 was 22.8 billion Euros, or 22.4 after removing the contribution from assets Enel had sold in that year.

The group reported an increase of 2.5% in its 'net debt' to 57.2 billion euros, but maintained that the debt-to-EBITDA ratio remained at 2.5.

Enel's stock closed Wednesday at a new record high of 9,53 euros, after rising by nearly 24% from July 31 when the group was launched a buyback program worth 1 billion euro.

Investors expect the group to begin a new round of share repurchases in this year. They are also waiting to hear about future investment plans, both in Italy where the government is considering extending the power distribution license, as well as abroad.

Under the leadership of Flavio Cattaneo,?the state controlled group focused on assets that are regulated, such as grids?, and implemented a plan to dispose of assets in order to streamline their activities and reduce costs.

According to pro-forma figures that exclude assets sold in 2024, the group's renewable energy capacity increased by 4% last year, to almost 68 gigawatts. $1 = 0.8476 euro (Reporting and editing by Alvise Armillini/Keith Weir).
