Emails show that BP will cut 700 jobs to simplify the company.

BP is planning to 'cut 700 employees from its global workforce according to an internal e-mail seen by. The oil major has been focusing on boosting profits and returns.

Email showed that the reductions would affect around 8% the 8,500 roles which were historically part of production and operations. The email stated that frontline roles included operators,?technicians, and maintenance roles. BP did not expect to see any changes in its frontline teams.

The email stated that "if your role is affected, it could mean that 'it doesn't exist in the new organization or changes materially. Or, it moves to a different area of the organization."

BP is stepping up its efforts to streamline its operations to'reduce debt, increase profit, and refocus its investments in oil and gas, after scaling back its investment in renewables.

"We're building a BP that is?simpler and stronger. We want to make it more valuable. We are proposing a number of changes as part of the process that?would lead to a reduction of?roles", a BP representative said without confirming how many jobs will be cut.
