EIA: US natgas production to reach record highs in 2026 while demand declines
The U.S. energy?information administration (EIA), in its Short-Term?Outlook (STEO), said on Tuesday that U.S. gas production will 'rise to a new record high' by 2026 while demand will be declining.
EIA predicted dry gas production would rise from a new record of 107.7 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd), to 109.6 in 2026, and 112.6 in 2027.
The agency projected that domestic gas consumption would fall from 91.9 bcfd at a record in 2025 to 90.6 bcfd by 2026, before increasing to 92.7 bcfd by?2027.
The EIA forecast for March was 109.5 bcfd?for production. However, the April projections were lower than 91.4 bcfd?for demand.
The agency forecast that the average U.S. exports of liquefied gas would increase from 15.1 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) in 2025, to 17.0 in 2026, and 18.6 in 2027.
The EIA predicted that the U.S. coal output would fall from 533.0 millions short tonne in 2025, to 516.7 in 2026, and 494.3 in 2027. This is the lowest level since 1963.
EIA predicted that carbon dioxide emissions would decrease from a high of 4.904 billion metric tonnes in 2025, to 4.789 in 2026, as oil, coal, and gas consumption?decreases. Then, they are expected to increase?to 4.802 in 2027 due to an anticipated rise in oil and natural gas usage. (Reporting and editing by Tomaszjanowski)
