EU diplomat: EU envoys failed to agree on 21st Package of Sanctions against Russia
An EU diplomat stated on Wednesday that European Union envoys have not yet reached agreement on a 21st set of'sanctions' against Russia as a'response' to Russia’s /war with Ukraine.
The diplomat said that EU envoys agreed to maintain the price cap for?Russian crude oil at its current level of $44.10 per barrel until July 23, while discussions continue?on this 21st package?of sanctions.
Last year, the price cap was revised to make it more dynamic, and in line with oil prices. It is backed by?EU and Group of Seven allies. Kaja Kallas warned earlier this week that the EU's chief of foreign policy had not yet reached an agreement with EU member states on this 21st comprehensive package of sanctions.
The Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs,?Kestutis budrys, said that the EU was undecided on a tightening of restrictions for Russian Liquefied Natural Gas. This 'latest package' of sanctions was first proposed by the EU in June with the goal of undermining Russian banking.
The package targets Russia's banks and crypto networks, as well as drone producers, oil traders and refiners.
