Croatia's INA confirms the discovery of new gas reserves on the northern Adriatic

December 10, 2025

The Croatian oil company INA (part of the Hungarian MOL Group) announced on Wednesday that it had confirmed large natural gas reserves in the northern Adriatic.

In a press release, the company said that the results of the first of the two planned wells showed daily production of 120,00 cubic metres of gas. This confirms the well's status as "the second most productive well in Croatia". Gas produced in the test was delivered to the Croatian grid via an existing production system, the company said.

INA stated that the new reserves were estimated to be?220 millions cubic metres of gas, or equivalent to 1.3 million barrels oil.

The development drilling in northern Adriatic is a project which may contribute significantly to the domestic 'production of natural gas,' said Josip?Bubnic. Executive director of INA’s exploration and -production department.

The second well's test drilling is expected to be completed in the first quarter 2026. At that time, the wells will then be connected to the existing production infrastructure.

INA?said that the drilling of new wells marked the company's new?cycle aimed at increasing domestic production and natural gas from the ocean. It will continue to drill wells in the future. (Reporting and editing by David Goodman)
