Constellation executives say that the US could decide to restart Three Mile Island in June.
Executives said that they hope U.S. regulators issue a 'decision as soon as next month' which will 'dictate' when the company's Three Mile Island Nuclear Power Plant can be restarted.
Constellation plans to restart its nuclear power station in Pennsylvania next year under the name Crane Clean Energy Center. The company has faced potential delays of years caused by the broader grid and is asking the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to find a solution.
The initial feedback from PJM grid suggested that 'the Crane nuclear power plant may not be able?to?deliver electricity to the grid until?2031.
FERC could make a decision on Constellation’s request in June or even July to transfer certain rights of injection of electricity into the grid from Eddystone, a natural gas-fired generating plant outside Philadelphia, to?the Crane Plant. Executives said this on a quarterly earnings conference call with investors.
"I do not want anyone to think that the plant will not start sooner," said CEO Joe Dominguez.
The power plant restart is part of a contract to serve Microsoft data centres in the'region. Three efforts are underway in the U.S. to restart a?shut down reactor. This is due to the?rise of power demand from data centers, industries and buildings that use a lot of energy. Reporting by Laila KEARNEY in New York, editing by David Gregorio
