An official announced on Friday that construction on a TikTok Data Center in Brazil would begin within six months. The project is expected to generate an investment of around 50 billion reais (9.11 billion dollars).

In a press release, Mines and Energy minister Alexandre Silveira stated that "six months from now we will start construction on TikTok’s data center".

Three people who were familiar with the situation said that the Chinese parent company of TikTok, ByteDance, was considering the move.

According to sources, the facility is planned for the Pecem Port Complex in Ceara as a joint project between ByteDance, and wind farm developer Casa dos Ventos.

Silveira stated that Brazil is a good place to invest in data centers due to its renewable energy. He also praised an executive order, signed by Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva last month, aimed at attracting such projects through federal tax incentives.

Casa dos Ventos, a Portuguese company, announced in May that it had received two important approvals for a 300 megawatt data center at the Pecem Port Complex.
