Bourbon Marine & Logistics said on Thursday it has been awarded a contract from Shell to support the oil major's exploration drilling in the Black Sea offshore Bulgaria.

The French services company said its project scope covers the full logistics solution project management, offering for the first time both marine logistics together with shore logistics: marine services, logistics base, warehousing, port facilities, cargo carrying units, waste management (WM), customs clearance, etc.

Two large supply vessels will be dedicated to the project, as well as the latest digital data management tools, it said.

Bourbon will jointly perform the services with Bulgarian operator Bon Marine and will operate from Varna, Bulgaria, as part of its local content strategy.

Drilling of the exploration well in the 1-14 Khan Kubrat block in the Black Sea will be at a depth of 1,300 meters and is expected begin in early April and last for three to four months.

Royal Dutch Shell has teamed up with Spain's Repsol and Australia's Woodside Energy after sealing a contract with Bulgaria in 2016 for deepwater exploratory drilling.

In November, French oil giant Total, alongside partners Austria's OMV and Repsol, began drilling a third well in a block neighboring Shell's in the Black Sea.
