Bloomberg News: EQT and NextDecade are in discussions for LNG supply

August 27, 2025

Bloomberg News reported Wednesday that EQT Corp was in discussions to purchase liquefied gas from NextDecade’s export terminal in Texas. The report was based on people who are familiar with the situation.

The report stated that under the terms of a potential deal, EQT will load super-chilled gas from Rio Grande LNG's export facility.

EQT and NextDecade didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

The commercial activity in the U.S. Liquefied Natural Gas sector has increased rapidly since President Donald Trump lifted his moratorium on new permits for exports shortly after taking office.

NextDecade has begun construction of its Rio Grande LNG plant, which will have a capacity to produce 17.6 million tonnes of LNG per year. The company is also building its fourth and five liquefaction trains with an additional combined capacity of 10,8 mtpa. These projects will cement the United States as the largest exporter of LNG in the world.

The company anticipates reaching final investment decisions on Trains 4 and 5 by mid-September. Once LNG developers have secured sufficient supply agreements to secure the necessary funding for construction, they typically reach a FID on their projects.

The shares of NextDecade rose by more than 8% during afternoon trading. (Reporting and editing by Shilpa Majumdar in Bengaluru.
