Harbour Energy, a British company focusing on the North Sea, announced Wednesday that it had been named the operator of the Zama oil field in Mexico after Pemex and its project partners, GrupoCarso, Talos Energy, agreed to this appointment.

The announcement comes just days after Harbour signed a $3.2 Billion deal with?LLOG, which will allow it to enter the 'Gulf of Mexico and position the company as the operator of two of Mexico's largest offshore oil projects.

The Managing Director of Harbour for Mexico, Gustavo Baquero said, "Once Zama is onstream, it will contribute materially to Mexico's energy supply at home and?to Harbour’s production levels?."

Zama was discovered in 2017 and is estimated to have 750 million barrels equivalent oil resources. It was one of the?biggest discoveries in Mexico made by a private firm in decades.

Harbour holds a 32.22% interest in Zama, and its partners, including the Mexican state oil company Pemex which operated the oilfield previously, have the option of appointing key personnel to Harbour's team.

Harbour also operates Kan, southwest of Zama where it has a 70% stake alongside TotalEnergies. (Reporting from Ankita Bora, Bengaluru. Editing by Janane Vekatraman.)
