Baker Hughes will supply key equipment to Alaska LNG Project
Baker Hughes, a provider of oilfield services, will provide key equipment for the proposed Alaskan LNG project. The project's chief developer announced on Monday that the pipeline and terminal would be built to export natural gas from Alaska's North Slope to Asia and to other markets.
Details of the project
* Baker Hughes is supplying refrigerant compression equipment and power generation for a gas treatment facility on the North Slope.
* The $44-billion project includes building an 800-mile (1,287 km) pipeline from Alaska's North Slope into the Gulf of Alaska to transport gas for liquefaction.
* President Donald Trump has given the project a new lease of life. He wants to maximize fossil-fuel development but is faced with obstacles such as high costs and rough terrain.
* Brendan Duval said, "With someone as prestigious as Baker Hughes, it's like a stamp approval," Glenfarne Group CEO Brendan Duval.
* In March, Glenfarne purchased a 75% share in Alaska LNG from Alaska Gasline Development Corporation.
The final engineering study will be completed by the end of this year. Investment decisions for the pipeline are expected to be made in early 2019, and the terminal is scheduled to open at the end of 2026.
