Australia LNG continues to disrupt after Narelle, thousands of people without power
On 'Sunday', Australia's liquefied gas production was still disrupted. Thousands of people in the remote north were without power for more than a month after the Narelle Storm System?hit Australia.
The impact of?Narelle, which was downgraded to a?tropical storm on Saturday, has been exacerbated by a global LNG supply crisis caused by the Iran War, which is now a month old.
Qatar's production was halted after Iranian attacks damaged its facilities, and Australia became the second largest LNG exporter in the world.
Woodside Australia said on Sunday that there was no new information. Narelle still disrupted production at the Karratha Gas Plant, the onshore facility for the North West Shelf Project, on Saturday. Production at its Macedon and Pluto sites was not affected.
Chevron didn't?respond immediately to a comment request on Sunday. On Saturday, the company said that it was working to restore production to its Gorgon and Wheatstone facilities after production outages caused by Narelle.
Gorgon, Australia's biggest LNG export facility, produces 15.6 million tons of LNG a year, with three processing trains. Wheatstone, on the other hand, has two trains that produce 8.9 millions tons.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services reported that power remained out late Saturday night in Exmouth. This town of 2800 people is located 1,100 kilometers (700 miles north) of the state capital of Western Australia, Perth.
State-owned Horizon Power said extra crews would be heading to Exmouth to "support local crews in restoring power to affected properties as soon as it was safe to do so".
The Australian Broadcasting Corp reported that Exmouth, a gateway town to the UNESCO World Heritage listed Ningaloo Reef suffered significant damage during the cyclone, but no injuries were reported.
Narelle?made landfall on 20 March as a severe tropical storm in Queensland and then crossed the Northern Territory, before hitting Western Australia.
