Analyst: Ukraine's gas reserves are more than 7 billion cubic meters, according to analysts
ExPro, an analyst, said that gas reserves in Ukrainian storage sites exceeded 7 billion cubic meters (bcm), but remain at their lowest level for the past 11 years.
After Russian missiles damaged the production facilities to the east of Ukraine, Ukraine was forced to increase gas imports and withdraw more gas from storage this winter and in the spring.
ExPro reported that the storages were 22,6% full, and the volume was 25,6% or by 2.4 Bcm less than the same date a year earlier.
Gas injection volumes were higher this year than in previous years. In the first week in June, 295 million cube metres (mcms) of gas was pumped into storage, nearly twice as much gas as during the same time period in 2012.
Since the start of the gas injection season this year on April 17, 1.6 billion cubic meters of gas have been pumped into gas storage facilities.
Serhiy Makogon said in an interview earlier this year, that Ukraine would need to import up 6.3 billion cubic meters of gas to meet its winter needs for 2025/26, as the country's reserves had fallen to record lows due to damage caused by war to certain facilities.
He stated that Ukraine will need to spend up to $3 billion on gas purchases. (Reporting and editing by David Evans; Pavel Polityuk)
